Hi Phil, I bet this was a very interesting antique shop to go through.
The image is very sharp, although there is a flash effect on the piece of furniture to the right that is distracting.
I think you have to ask yourself what you are taking a picture of. The painting is very interesting, but the clock and candlesticks are in the way. The furniture it sits above is interesting too, but half of it is missing from the photo. And the hanging lamp and wiring doesn't do anything for the image at all, but unfortunately it looks like it would have been in the way no matter what you did.
If you were documenting a particular piece, then you would get close to it and cut out surrounding distractions. A crop later at home will also do that for you. If you wanted to show the clutter and charm of the antique shop itself, then you would back up and show more.
One other thing I noticed is the lighting (probably the same lighting that is causing the flash spot) is lighting the painting too much on the bottom right corner. Sometimes where you stand to take the shot will solve that problem.
Something else that I've learned that really helps is turning your camera to take a portrait shot instead of a landscape shot of a piece like the painting and stand it's on. That automatically cuts out distractions and highlights the piece beautifully.
